Default Engine stalls when I shift from Drive to Park

Hi
I have an 03 Durango (4.7L - auto transmission). Lately, I've noticed that whenever I shift from drive to park, my engine comes close to, or does stall completely. Same for when I go from drive to reverse. No problems when I am in park, and then shift to drive or reverse.

I have an OBD scanner & it came up with no codes.

Any idea what it might be? It's a little old & I've been debating on whether or not to keep it if its an expensive repair.

Thanks!

When was the last time you checked the battery? Could be it's not getting enough juice from the alternator. Have it load-tested. Ds have a funny reaction to batteries that are not just right. Has to do with the PCM and such. The experts will chime in soon to help.
Do you let the D sit for a while between drives? Could be a slow drain affecting your battery.

i agree with dan, it could very easily be a bad battery how old is the battery?(4 years is the AVERAGE life span of a battery in these trucks) how often do you drive the truck? have the battery load tested and let us know what the results are, also check the connections on the battery and make sure they are clean and tight and have the alternator tested too while your there getting the battery done.

Clean the connections and have the battery load tested. Auto Zone or others can check all of it at your truck and you don't even have to remove anything.

Thanks for the replies guys.

My battery is about a year old. I checked the connections and had the battery, along with the alternator, load tested tonight. They both tested out fine.

I also drive it pretty much every day...although for just a couple of miles each time normally because I live so close to work.

Any other ideas on what it could be? I've noticed lately that it seems to be idling rough as well.

Thanks!

i wonder if you are running it for long enough at a time to keep the battery fully charged, but hydras suggestion of new plugs is NOT a bad one

Yep, gapped at .40 inches. Use champion copper el cheapos. Our engines like those.

Hey guys-
Thanks again for the replies.

I changed out all of the spark plugs this afternoon (I had Autolites in there before) & am still getting the same problem.

One thing I've noticed is that it only happens when the engine is warm. When I go out & first crank the truck up, it doesnt stall when I shift it back into park. But after I get to where I'm going, then put it in park, the engine stalls.

Any other ideas on what I could try?
