trailer wiring
On the 2000 Durango, the brake and turn signals are on separate circuits so you'll need a converter. I picked one up at a local trailer hitch store and wired it in behind the left (driver's side) tail light. Uhaul might have them also. It's a small box, maybe 2"x2" with the standard yellow, green, brown and white wires on one side and wires on the other side that you'll splice into your current wiring. It basically takes your brake signal and sends it down the green and yellow wires at the same time. Super easy to install. I think the diagram might actually even be printed on the box itself. Hope this helps.
nothing there found a spot at rear for wires to go through the body with like a twist out insert and a spot in the center for wires to go through
I have an 01 and have the same issue. Mine didn't have a hitch when I bought it. The dude said he took it off to swap with one that looked better from another 01 he was parting, so a few days later he put it on for me but he just left the wires hanging there with the plug cut off. I found the plug under the dash for trailer brakes and after I got them all hooked up, I cannot find the other end anywhere. Most everything I can find on the internet anywhere says the wires come down the driver side frame rail, then go up into the cabin somewhere between the 2nd and 3rd row seats, but a couple things I read said that dodge ran all of the lighting circuits above the doors to be less prone to customer damage. Either way, short of tearing out half my interior, I'm stuck running new wires and buying an adapter for the trailer plug. Anyone have any suggestions???
Go to a bone yard and cut one off because the plugs are a "one of a kind" and the wires will be there and in order so you splice right back into. If a new plug it's self is what you need then it is a dealer item as the plug on the reverse side (input) is different than any others.
I gave up looking for the stock connection and just used my wifes truck to tow. Then one day I was fishing a power wire for my amp thru the driver side fender into the passenger compartment and what should appear before me? The factory connection for the tow package wiring. It is located behind the left front tire behind the inner fender. It is the same plug that feeds the fuel pump wiring. I pulled the plug apart and half of the output side had no pins or wires in it but the input side did. Went to a salvage yard and found a harness with factory trailer wiring for 15 bucks and installed it. Simple plug and play and now I have tow lights and trailer brakes without cutting into my factory harness or shelling out $$ for a converter.
