Default Trans going :/

So i went up to big bear this weekend for some snowboarding action. I realized that when my D is on a nice incline like going up a curly road on the side of the mountain with over drive off the transmission seems to be confused. Example. ill be going slowly up the hill and after a turn i will want to accelerate, so i press on the gas and i can feel the car moving a little more but the danr thing is VERY hesitant to down shift. ill have to play around with the pedal pushing it in and out and finally it will shift but it will downshift like 2 gears and give me more torque then i wanted. its annoying as hell. one point i pressed down on the gas and the rpms began to drop!! another thing is when cruising down hill. If the pedal is touched a little bit you can feellthe trans ingage but its harsh you feel it in the steering wheel.

All of this seems to happen in places that require a lot of different speeds and variability. on a free way, inclined freeways etc and around town the car drives perfectly but add in some below 40 speeds up big inclines and the transmission is retarded. any thought on what might be going on? i have reached 90k miles on it.

thanks

if you are attempting to maintain a speed which is right on the border between two gears it will do this, mine does it (with OD on) around 50-60 going up a hill once you get above 60 it shifts very nicely, (i usually just lock out OD and let it rev the engine a little higher)it does it around any of the gear shift points under these conditions, it seems like it wants to be in the higher gear for efficiency, but at the same time it realizes that you NEED the torque from the lower gear, it is the computer being confused as far as i can tell. it sounds to me like you are noticing the same things i am, its annoying, yes, but i dont think it points to anything getting ready to fail. (btw i have just over 90k miles on my truck too)

you could try a fluid filter change, or try resetting the tcm (disconnect the battery and hold the key to on as if you are trying to clean CEL codes, it resets the PCM and TCM as well

I would replace the transmission output sensor if you haven't done this yet. Get it from the dealer.

should be on the output shaft of the transmission, on the older transmissions it was on the drivers side
