Default Transmission Cooler Line Assembly

99 Dodge Durango

Hey guys, got a bit of a problem and looking for a cheap fix. My transmission line is rusted through and leaking badly now, it's the lower line that feeds into the rubber hose. My question is, can I somehow get the steel line out of the rubber hose so I can just buy the steel line and re-use the rubber hose? The steel line is $13.00 and the rubber hose is $50.00!

Here's a picture of the line I pulled from the truck today.

afaik you have to buy that section in the picture as one piece, and if the line is rusted through imagine the condition of the rubber hose, and all the crap that is probably in the line, if it were me i would spring for the full section and do it the right way the first time

A complete line kit from trans to radiator and back is only like $50 at the dealer, so replace the whole system.

look at it this way would you rather go cheap now and have to replace the tranny later or pay a little more now and keep the tranny you have. A $50 line is alot cheaper than a new tranny

And it's only $50 for both the entire lines and inline check valve. Much better than a trans.

You're right about replacing the whole line but I just paid $125. for the complete line so the cost of living must be a lot cheaper in Utah.....

EDIT: Thanks for all your advice, greatly appreciated! Now, going to lay on the driveway and get this done.

The install went a little harder than I expected it to. Took me a little while to snake the line in but took me a LONG time to get the fitting started at the tranny. It's in a pretty tight spot and not easy to get my fingers on it. Took me about an hour or so but it's all back together and leak free!! Thanks again for all your quick responses, now I can enjoy the rest of the weekend!

That is a long way to snake it through. Glad to see you got it.
