Also good call on the waterpump and fan clutch, especially the pump. Did they check the radiator and look for cold/hot spots?

They will be lookin at that also. Funny thing is, this thing only overheated 2 times and was just for a few mins, but bought it used and you never know what you are gonna get. I talked to 5-6 differet shops and asked them about this sniffer the guy used and they all said yep we would have used the same thing. Said that if the leak is small enough it might not, and did not, show up on a liquid block test. The amount that was showing was pretty small so they all were saying that it is pretty much in the start phase of it going bad, but would still cause pressure to build up in the system and that is why I was seeing these little bubbles at the bleeder screw so much and a good reason why the coolant was not coming back from the res bottle to the radiator...So with replacing head gaskets, hopefully the heads will check out fine, labor, tossin in a new pump, clutch fan and serp belt....lookin at a 2 grand bill .........oh boy.... but its either get it fixed or get rid of it and since I just bought it a year ago and still owe about 4500 on it...well now Ill owe 6500 ha ha..got to laugh about it...

So Hydro-Carbon is what they are testing for?

Anyway, get the cooling system pressure tested and a compression test done. MAGIC is right in getting a second opinion.

I understand that and to tell you the truth before this forum I wouldnt think of the bleeder screw. While they have the fan and waterpump out make sure they at the very least check the radiator. Discuss with the mechanic and see if it that much more in parts and labor to r/r the radiator. Don't ask me for price on that since I went with Dealer, mine was $900 just for radiator alone. I would think since you are getting a pretty involved repair you could probably get a discount and piece of mind to start off the summer season with a basically brand new cooling system.

I am not your financial adviser but talk with your mechanic about the Goodyear GatorBack, I dont think you will be dissapointed. Also, if there is any question about the Radiator cap I would r/r that too.

Thanks Hydra, remember mine went from Head Gasket to radiator, both pretty pricey items but radiator still a lot cheaper. If they are getting the Hydrocarbon tests for the head gaskets, they probably have a infrared thermometer to check hotspots on the radiator. I am not saying it is or isnt the headgasket but if you are going that far, might as well check out everything.
