Default Oil on spark plug issue

So I have a 2002 Dodge Durango with the 4.7 L, we pulled the spark plugs and on the 7th one I noticed it was covered in oil, it looked like someone dunked the whole spark plug in oil.

I tried to clean it up and then replaced the spark plug and ran it for 25 minutes to see if the new one was covered, nothing much. I plan on running it for another week and then pull the spark plug.

What can be the issue, is this common, I have 90,000 km's on it. Any help would be great.

Are you sure it was oil or could it have been fuel caked?

Did you get any CEL codes?

Your valve covers also have rubber grommets that seal around the spark plug area. Sounds like you have one of those grommets leaking oil. Only way of fixing that is to replace your valve cover gaskets which will come with the new grommets. If you do not change this, it will cause you to have a misfire in that one cylinder.

i have a feeling hydra is on the right track if the plugs were old (past normal run life) it was probably just fuel residue caked onto it, but keep an eye on it and let us know

They were original spark plugs, so they were old and worn. I will keep you posted.

I pulled the plug last week and all is well, must have been residue so it seems good now. Next thing on the list is replace the exhaust manifold bolts as I am getting the tick upon start up but goes away after the engine is warm.
