Default 02 durango no rear heat

My dad has a 2002 durango and it's not getting any rear heat. we took the cover off and turned it on and the door moves and everything. Its just the heater core does not get hot. I felt under the passanger side lines and on one you can put your hand on it (it's hot on this side) and then move your hand back a foot towards the back and its cold. Has anybody had an issue like this before?

Sounds like a plugged core or bad actuator.

but the lines going to the core don't get hot. So it couldn't be the core, could it?

it could be core, if the core is completely blocked fluid cannot flow to it, there will be cold fluid both before and after the block stoping the hot fluid from getting there. the fluid will follow the path of least resistance as it is pumped throught he system which will be some other line besides the one going to the rear heater core

+1 Sharps

Back flush the heater core with a garden hose hooked to the house full blast. Switch back and forth till you reach full flow then hook the normal hoses back up.

Default no rear heat

did you ever figure this out i think i have the same problem Maybe, although i have lots of heat to the front vents but my rear control only blows cold. if the heater core was clogged wouldnt this prohibit the front from getting warm? i have not felt under the passanger side so also i guess i am also asking if the rear has its own heater core

The rear has it's own heater core so the answer is........no.

Flush the rear heater core first and go from there.
