I have had my PCM replaced by dodge($800). I have been told that if you buy an aftermarket PCM it will be cheaper but you still have to get it flashed buy dodge. I was told buy the dealership that they would not flash it if it was not bought at a dealer(maybe bs though) so be careful. Over all it has been a great suv, and yes mine is a 1999 4x4 with 5.9L. hope this gives you some insight, mine did this at 172,000 miles just to give you an idea as well.
The pre-flashed ones you can buy on Ebay are all (as far as I've seen) warrantied for LIFE. You go to a dealer and you'll get the "Death Flash". Besides, for $200 bucks to your $800 bucks with a life time warranty and direct plug and play sounds pretty good to me.....Just sayin.

I don't know about the spacers, but it sounds like a good idea. My durango is white and like I said it happened at around 172,000. Good luck and I hope you don't have to mess with that issue,it's a pain in the a$$.

Just to let you in on a little secret the pcm you get from autozone, o'reilly's, etc. do not have the proper programing, your check engine light will still be on each one of them are coded for that vin to match the ecm(so I've been told, it could be crap and if it is let me know, but I heard that from several people).Remember if you live in an emissions county or state it will not pass inspection with the engine light on(I live in TX).

if you buy the pcms from ebay you give the company your information and they send you a FULLY PROGRAMMED PCM with your VIN#, mileage and any other features on your truck controlled by the PCM so there will be NO check engine light, i have not heard of Autozone or any other stores selling PCMs, but if they do then they SHOULD be asking for this information so that the new computer is programmed correctly, they will also likely have to order it from the manufacturer.

and BTW ECU is the ford term, on a Dodge its a PCM
