Default Gremlins in my 98's locks

First off, I did a search, but didn't find anyone with a problem similar to mine, so I apologize if I'm beating a dead horse here lol

I have a 1998 Durango SLT, 172,000 miles

The issue is this, after I shut off the vehicle, and only then, about 5 seconds later the locks will cycle on and off twice (i.e. locked/unlocked), the dash lights will blink on and off with the first cycle. If I use the door switch for the locks, they will lock, but immediately unlock after releasing the switch. If I press the switch to unlock, nothing happens at all. This is true of both front door switches. The key fobs don't work at all. If I wait until the locks run their cycle, I can manually lock the doors without problem and they'll stay locked. It only happens 5 seconds after shutting off the engine.

A little back story: I bought the rig this way about 2500 miles ago, the previous owner had replaced the driver door but not changed over anything, so the key doesn't work in that door. I do have the original door, so if any components need changed over I can do that. At some point, there was a sound system installed in the rig, and from the looks it was done by a professional. The wires are all still in it for a subwoof/amp. The previous owner said he bought it that same way and never bothered to see about putting one in. Upon checking the fuse panel on the side of the dash by the door, I found a blue LED light, a momentary push button switch, and an on/off toggle switch. The blue LED flashes once every second, and neither of the switches have any effect on anything I've checked so far. The wires for these items are bundled up neatly and tied back into the factory wiring harness so if I didn't know better, I'd say they were factory items lol

I'm beginning to think I bought myself an electrical headache, but for $1200 I'm willing to cope with it. I plan on driving this just long enough to find an RT Durango and then this one is going into the garage for a 3/4 ton SAS with 3 link front, 4 link rear, and 3/4 ton 360/auto tranny/transfer swap (basically swapping everything from a wrecked 3/4 ton Ram)

Thank you all for any help!!

Only time I ever found a blue or red flashing led was when an aftermarket alarm system was installed on a vehicle. You might want to check into that because that could also cause the door locks to malfunction.

Sounds like a after market alarm issue or a CTM is going out. $450 for a CTM replacement and a dealer must flash it. Take in all your Key Fobs during the flash if you want to use them to open the doors.

Sounds like you have an aftermarket alarm messing with your CTM. Try toggling off the alarm and see if your problems still exist. If so, take it into a sound/alarm shop to see if you can have the alarm removed or replaced. HTH. Oops, jusy reread your OP. Have your D taken into a sound/alarm shop would be my suggestion.

its either an aftermarket alarm acting up (if any aftermarket hard wired system was removed then the wiring should have gone out with the system IMO) or the CTM going out on you

1st: LMAO IndyDurango

2nd: If there were an aftermarket alarm system installed, where might I find the control module for it? Like I said, the wires tuck very neatly back into the factory harness so everything looks like it belongs there except for the switches/light themselves. I'll try to remember to get pics of them tonight. I don't know of any "good" sound/alarm shops in my area (I live in the country, so my area is about a 50 mile radius lol). There's a BestBuy about 30 miles away, but I don't know if I trust them with this stuff. I had a radio installed a few years ago and they completely botched it.

Thank you guys again for your help!

You're gonna have to take off the kick panel from under the steering wheel. You'll see alot of wires but follow the wires that lead to the momentary switch and LED bulb. You'll find a black bock most likely zip tied to the steering column or some stationary place. It shuold be about 4" X 4" with two or three ports for connecting the wires. I don't know if 98s have factory alarm but if you do, look for another black box that will have the factory security key from the manufacturer(gray color). If you aren't familiar with car electronics, take it to best buy and tell them your problem, maybe the techs there have improved. HTH.
