Unhappy need serious help here.

gauge keeps telling me im losing oil pressure when I stop at a light or w/e.
when I put it in N and rev it, pressure returns.
and if I shut it off and start it up in park, pressure goes all the way up by itself [with no revving of motor] and stays there.

was wondering if my pump is bad or if its just the sensor?
please help. Thank you.

Is the gauge needle between the hashmarks? Do you have increased pressure when driving? Does the needle move to the left but still within hashmark? Are you detecting visible leakage? If you answer yes to all but the last question, your gauge is working correctly. The needle will fluctuate between the hashmarks depending on driving and idle. If you said yes to the last question... Get it serviced!!! You are leaking oil!!! HTH.

Put a manual gauge on it first. If the manual shows pressure at idle and your dash gauge shows less to nothing, replace your oil pressure sensor or what I call sending unit.

i would check the pressure with a mechanical gauge if you can, and if it shows pressure then replace the sending unit

otherwise i agree with dan

and pete, we shouldnt have to send indy and his voo-doo doll after dislander, he should go on his own

First, are you sure you have no oil pressure? When it does this at a stop (especially after a long drive like on a freeway then complete stop). Does the engine tap and sound loudly on the top end (noticeable sound differences and possible oil burn smell)? If so you most likely have an oil pump going or you have a neutral psi in the crank case. Also check oil level!

If you think you have a neutral psi you can try this: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...-pressure.html

Replace the PVC valve and check to ensure your Oil Crank Case Breather tube is installed correctly.

Replace the oil filter and use Full Synthetic oil 10W-30.

If there is no noticeable sound or you are sure because of mechanical gauge of positive oil pressure replace the sending unit.

Alright guys, sorry about the wait, took a trip and things got a little tied up, took me awhile to get back, read all the replies and here is what I hope will answer all them.

oil pressure gauge moves around alot [or at least I think more than it should]

stays BETWEEN the hash marks, never goes all the way low, or all the way high, this only happens at a stop.

Took it to have it pressured tested, normal is between 25 and 80 [?] maybe im wrong. But I have 70 lbs. pressure at 1500 rpm.

I have NO visible leakage. Oil level is FINE.

There is no top motor noise, no knocks, dings, pings, raps, taps, or whatever other sound you can think of.

I was thinking the same thing dan was thinking, maybe just normal movement?
Theres no odd oil levels. Im not leaking, theres no knocks or noise of any kind.
Its got me stumped.

Thanks all for the help.

as long as the oil pressure guage is staying btwn the hash marks i wouldnt be worried about it, mine moves around based on engine load/speed and temp ect, its not really reasonable to expect constant pressure throughout the entire rpm band of an engine
