It was a shaft that connected the pump to a belt? I don't know for sure because he seemed like he was extremely busy when I picked it up so I didn't press him with questions. It was really short and no more than a half an inch in diameter.

I guess this is what they mean by "when it rains, it pours". The night after getting the D back, the AC vents start spewing steam. Upon further research, its most likely the heater core..... GREAAATTTT. My mechanic gave me a $600 quote for parts and labor. Sound about right to all of you?

Yepp, because the entire dash has to be removed. Always a good idea to replace the AC parts while its open aswell. (Steam is one thing-coolant is alot more noticable as with the greasy film on the windows/sweet smell of death)

Well I'm dropping the D off in a few at my mechanic and hopefully I'll get it back in the next few days. He's a great mechanic and he's never screwed me before, I just wanted to make sure it was as difficult as it actually sounded. Man, I love these trucks, but some of the engineering seems foolish. E.G.: Designing the truck to require at least 8 man hours to replace a part that can be bought for under $100.

Oh yeah, taking off the dash is a PITA! I would take the advice of all the previous posters and get EVERYTHING replaced that needs done to save you the time and money for next time.

Well my mechanic said he would even be able to start it till next week (he has a great reputation, so, naturally, he's a busy guy). Looks like I'll have to be toying around in my Dad's car while they're on vacation.... Oh well... There's nothing wrong with a 5.7 Hemi 300C with some fun mods =)
