Default First Durango

Hi all just got my son his first car.

2001 Durango SLT
4.7 V8
151000.

Its in great condition both mechanically and cosmetically, one or two very minor dings here and there.

Mechanically the only problem we have is the high pressure hose (power steering) is leaking quite bad. So i went and picked one up today from local auto shop $59.99.

Is it hard to install and do you have to bleed the system after.

Because i want to clean the underneath where the fluid had sprayed should i user engine degreaser and pressure wash it?

We got it for $3800 cash, hope thats a good buy, the KBB is aroubd 5300 in good condition

It is not that hard to replace. Usually the air in the system will self bleed out. After installation and refilling your pump, start engine and turn lock to lock a few times. Turn off engine and wait a few minutes. Check reservoir and top it off. Do the lock to lock again and recheck fluid level. You can use engine degreaser and just go to the car wash and pressure wash it there.

Thanks for your help. All done and no leaks.

Took it down to a buddy (mechanic) for him to check over. He said everything looks in good order other than the transmission support block was worn and could do with replacing.

Is that what its called because i can't find it on line. It looks like a block of hard rubber, with 2 bolts either side and clamps around the transmission tube.

Thanx

Clean that leak up VERY well. Antifreeze and Powersteering fluids tend to wick into electrical connections and all hell goes bad from there. Where it leaked, degrease and whatever else to get it gone. If it has leaked ON a connector, bet that it has entered that connector. Use contact cleaner in those areas.

indy raises a very good (and true) point, make sure it is all cleaned up, although if you miss a spot it could take days, weeks, months, or years to show up (not trying to scare you just pointing it out)

you should have pulled the code to make sure it was something minor, it is never a good idea to just clear the code as it could let a small, simple, cheap fix turn into something bigger
