Don't dance around with all that meat thermo and disconnect/reconnect stuff. Spend $30 get a simple digital laser thermo at Walmart or HarborFreight or Sears and check the temps before the radiator, after the radiator, anywhere you want. You will know in 30 seconds what temps you really have. Well worth the money spent on the time saved along. Not to mention you don't have to disconnect anything that may lead to bigger issues later.

JMHO!

Initially I said "dick" around, but I changed it to "dance" so The Drunk-one didn't get his panties in a wad thinking I was calling him out. I wasn't! LOL. The laser sensor is just the perfect, easy tool for the task. And even a cheap one readily available now works fine for it.

Ok, here is an update......
Bought this one:

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/cat...oductId=951642

The heater core was plugged so I removed both hoses and sprayed out the core
with the garden hose. My heater now works pretty good, not great though.
The truck still barely shows it warming up, looks to be 140degrees or so on the gauge. Still is idling high at 700RPM instead of my usual 550RPM or so.
The idle is smooth and the truck is running great though. Coolant level
looks good but I can't get the radiator to burp since the thermostat doesn't
seem to be opening. More updates will follow when I get more time to work
on the beast.

Thanks again for all the help fellas!!

it sounds to me like the stat isnt closing which is why it wont get above 140

if you take it out you can test to see if it opens/closes in a pot of water on the stove and you can measure what temp it opens/closes at ect

It's a great idea actually. I said that way cause most people have a meat thermometer. I use many ways including radiant, thermocouple, digital, and mechanical thermometers in my work and at home. My favorite is any that any calibratable to NIST certified Ice Point. So in layman's terms, I regulate industry using them with their products.

The reason I bring this up is because of inconsistencies in calibration. The cheaper you thermometer no crappier it is and thus people can get bad readings on them.

It's the best way and the best idea hands down either way. But I have seen people get bad readings causing un-needed work.

BTW<----- I Don't Care if you use the occasional swear word as even prime time TV uses them, just don't OVER USE them. As for my panties in a knot,
