Differential, No-Slip Traction System, 29-Spline, Mopar 8.25 in., Each
my dodge durango uses the 8.25 rear axle what's the spline quantity? 27 or 29?
heres the description:
The Powertrax No-Slip Traction Systems are the latest design in traction-adding differential technology. They combine the smooth operation of a limited-slip differential with the traction performance of a locking differential. A precise synchronization mechanism eliminates the ratcheting sounds typical of other locking differentials. Special gear and spring designs reduce the backlash, and, therefore, the driveline windup. Only ultra-strength material that is 67 percent stronger than titanium is used. Installation is simple because no ring and pinion setup is required. In addition, no special tools or oils are needed. Step-by-step, model-specific instructions are provided with every kit.

They are both good lockers and work on the same principles.
There is only 1 of the Chrysler 8.25 carrier. If there WAS a LS option (which I have never seen) then it would be a different carrier. Now the first thing to do is make sure your truck does NOT have an LS differential because those or for Open Gearing carrier replacement. They both are the correct application. I have heard good things on the Powertrax.
The one thing I don't like it is says "Note: V6 only" on the Aussie locker but I think it's a typo.

That's what I said.
The carrier would be different if it was a LS or an Open both in the 8.25 axle housing if there IS an LS version of that certain carrier. If there is a LS model in the 8.25 (which the service manual states there is and I haven't seen one) then those kits would be the wrong kits.
He needs to first find out which axle he has, then find out if it is open or LS.

i would put my money on a tru-track. we put one in my buddy's 1500 and it is incredible, drives like an open dif on the road till you put the power to it, will walk sideways if you go nuts but if you are attempting to gain traction it somehow moves the power to either wheel. it is so damned good that we twisted the truck up on a hill so the right rear came off the ground and was free spinning. you apply light brake pressure and then you hear a sort of gear whining noise followed by a light pop and the axle "locks" and it climbs right up and over any obstacle. i didnt beleive it til i saw it with my own eyes. i will try to get a video of it in action. i am definatly buying one for my durango
