Default '99 5.9L Durango slt feels a lil tired

Hey everyone, i happened across this searching for new ideas for mpg upgrades.
My 1999 5.9L is starting to feel a little sluggish. I am the 2nd owner i bout it off a dealership so I know nothing about the original owner, or what was done to her. Basically i want to try and increase my power and fuel economy. I want to do a full on tune up, Anyone have any suggestions on what to do and where to start?? The only mod i have is a K&N FIPK gen2 intake

To increase fuel economy, get a good tune up and drive it like your grandmother would. You are pushing a vehicle designed as aerodynamic as a rock powered by a big V8 with a nice amount of torque. NOT the rig to expect good milage from. If you get 16MPG consider yourself blessed. 11-14 would be the norm.

I hear you can get a good deal on a Toyota Prius if interested. It gets good mileage but has none of the amenities your Durango does.

Pick and choose. Decisions Decisions.

you have a choice to make, as indy stated these trucks are as aerodynamic as a brick, therefore get bad gas mileage, if you want more power that gas mileage number tends to go down even more, about the best mpgs will come from driving a STOCK truck like a little old woman who is afraid to use the gas pedal (but who in there right mind can drive one of these trucks like that )

Yeah I am aware that these bad boys aren't Formula 1 cars by any standards. And I live out in the hills/mountains of North East PA so driving like grrandma is basically out of the question. The ol' girl has hast 130k miles on her and just isnt the same, she has lost some of her spunk, and i would like to get that and the mpgs she lost with it. I was more looking for good solid DIY tune up suggestions. Like what the best plug wires, distributors, etc that you guys have tried before I go and start tearing into the old girl and put some crappy parts on. Thanx

And did you really suggest a PRIUS????? they are about the fugliest things on the planet in my mind. Besides being out in the sticks you do actually need 4x4 capabilities sometimes.
