Default p0132 and p0138

Hey guys...concerning my wife's 2000 5.9...

Been reading about the 132 and 138 codes...I have both codes showing...all connections at the sensors are good and clean, guess it is time to replace both. Any suggestions on removal? The one post cat looks pretty easy...the one pre cat looks like a bear...any hints?

Thanks...the forum has been a great tool!

P0132 1/1 O2S Shorted To Voltage
P0138 1/2 O2S Shorted To Voltage

Well first start by getting new plugs (Champion Coppers) and gap to .040

Next, check your PCM harness.

ok hydra, stop drinking and posting

i would start by making sure that the plugs are clean of any water/contaminants which could be shorting them, and that the wire harness is intact (not cuts, or anything else that could cause a short). you could clean the contacts in the plugs with your gf's or wife's nail file should work, then clear the codes and if they come back, look at new sensors

i don't know about durango's, but on the ram trucks the parts listing gives 2 different choices - square plugs and round plugs. i did everything EXCEPT find/unplug the damn plug to guess which one it was, and naturally - guessed wrong. so if you have multiple choices, trace your connection back up and unplug it and look at it. mine was on top of the transmission and overly hard to get to. i had to break off the plastic anchor point of the plug to figure out the little red connector which has to be slid back, then squeezed or pried loose or something.

i found the best price on amazon.com for the NTK. much cheaper than autozone or other local parts stores.

i ended up cutting the plug off my new one and splicing in the old plug with crimp connectors. 2 whites, 1 black, 1 gray. so - i could have just bought a universal and saved even more money...

Update...

Had my mechanic friend change the sensors (parts + 12 pack Bud Light), cleared the codes...runs a bit better. Think I'll go with Hydra's recommendation and do the new Coppers and call it good...plugs I can do, sensors were a bit more than I wanted to deal with...

Thanks again for the Forum!!
