I've been plowing with my 2000 Dakota for 14 years. I have a 7.5' fisher plow.
I have about 30 driveways I plow every storm. 10 storms a year in CT.

Also have a 2002 Durango with 230k miles. It has a blizzard plow on it.
Been plowing with this one for two years.

Great size trucks for driveways. You just need to go easy as with any truck.

Both have 4.7 with auto Trans. 14 years and never had a trany problem. I know, I'm surprised my self.

 

I can relate to that statement.But what does that have to do with snowplowing with a Durango?

Well my dad's 92 half ton chevy has plowed snow for 16 years and has 315k on the original front end (ok it does pull slightly now, but it is just slightly). Surprised us, its been used as a construction truck for the last 280k. Now I wouldn't use my durango as a plow vehicle without some re-enforcing and lifetime replacement components, they just didn't have a snow plow prep package offered. Personally go get and old K5 blazer or ramcharger with a plow on it already. There are tons around here at least.

 

In about three more weeks I'll be adding a plow to my Rango. 7.5 Fisher HT but still considering the SD. I agree that the front ends are the week link, but It's also how ya use them.

 

A quad with a plow is cheaper.

The durango is one of the worst choices to mount a plow to..well for a vehicle with any value other than just trashing and burning money.

 

What's funny though is I've been researching for almost a year and have only found comments of the weak front ends but nothing that shows where someone dropped a front end out from using a Rango. Sure it will wear ball joints and stuff , but what wont with a plow on it. I work for the Govt and we use some major duty trucks and sometimes they are being repaired after every storm. I've got all new front end stuff planned while the plow is being installed, from brake and suspension upgrades to E range tires. Gotta spend money to make money..lol

 

So your going to use your durango to plow for your job because the plow trucks are down? Or you normally use a company truck to plow for personal use?

 

This reminds me of a Trailblazer I saw last week with a plow on the front. WHY? I asked myself.

I guess it was for that Suburbanite that did not want to be bothered with a snowblower or shovel for their (small) driveway. I cannot see the plow or truck being strong enough to due much else.
