Default Increase MPG

Hello all! First, a little about my Durango. It is a 2000 4.7L with approximately 150k miles. I really do like this Durango and would like to extend it's life and get the most MPG's possible. Right now I am averaging about 14MPG. I know I can do better than this (i hope)! What do you all recommend?

yea i agree, use less gas pedal,

than and maybe a tune up (new champion copper core spark plugs gapped to .040, new air filter, oil change, trans fluid/filter change, diff oil change), make sure your tires are up to the right pressure, and wearing evenly, make sure the truck is aligned properly, remove excess junk from the back.

you can also turn off OD when you are driving under 45 or so (i usually turn it back on when im going over 40) and if all of this isnt enough (i get about 16-17 around town) then you need to buy a civic, sorry to say but these trucks are big, heavy and have the aerodynamics of a brick (all of which cause bad gas mileage)

To increase your mileage, I would suggest you use the search function.

Not like this topic isn't covered once a week. Seriously and sorry.

Thank you all for your helpful recommendations. I added a few more recommendations of my own and hope to see increased MPG. I tightened all the lug nuts, washed and waxed the beast and put 4 coats of RainX on the windshield. Oh yeah, and removed the front license plate. Now this thing should slip through the air and should save me atleast 4 -5 MPG's!

Indy, I looked and looked for the 'search' option in my Durango, but I couldn't find it. If using this option will really save some MPG's, could you please direct me to it? I even looked under the floor mats, but it escapes me some how!

LMFAO!

There is a forum search link ^^^^^^ up there. Pull the menu down and use the advance search link. GO there and input the info you would like to look up and on the right side there is drop down menu. Highlight the 1st gen durango to search just in this section.

Also look in here: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...wers-faqs.html

Damn! I was really looking forward to finding that hidden 'search' button in my D. I think I'll just get rid of the gas pedal completely and do the Fred Flinstone!

Thanks, Hydra, for the link! Mucho appreciado!

There is a *Search* button in all Durango's. All ya gotta do is reach under the seat between your legs and push upwards with your finger in the center of the seat while sitting on it. There is only one thing wrong with that *Search* button, some people enjoy it and push on it too many times without typing in a word.

Found it! What a great two hour drive into work today! It usually takes about 45 minutes, but once I found the 'search' button, it was all over! If only I'd known about this 150k miles ago, it would have been a whole new driving experience! Oh! And there's also a dual purpose to said 'search' button. It provides organic fuel!
