Default 1st time owner questions

Ok i just bought a 99 durango auto 2wd 5.2L SLT. The truck runs great and looks to be in amazing condition everything works, interior looks brand new suspension is all jacked but the car lot said they will fix it. But here is my question this is my 1st high millage truck. The millage on the truck is 160000 how good are these motors? Do you think i could still add performance upgrades at that high of millage or that to much stress to add to the motor.

Thanks for your advice

That is not much mileage for these motors. However most performance upgrades will include internal engine modification so any gaskets or wear items could be replaced at that time.

+1 trapstud the basic bolt ons will not be a problem (CAI, exhaust ect), but most of the big gains come from internal mods, and gaskets will be an issue if you dont replace them, fortunately gaskets are not all that expensive

Good motor!

Start by replacing fluids and filters.

Don't forget to give the belt a good look and possibly change it out too.

Did a over all check of everything oil looks fine and doesn't smell. Plus there is a sticker in the widow that says it still has 1000 miles left on it. Belts look brand new tight all that seems to be good. I didnt see no fluids on anything(but im sure the dealer cleaned the engine bay).

The reason why i ask is most of my cars minus my 73 nova were small motor and i was always told that after 100000 miles any upgrades will just lessen the life of the motor but i no i had my nova hooked up and there was no way to even track the miles on that thing anymore but it was a 350 you couldn't kill that thing

They are 2 different animals. In the old days 100k was about it on a motor but now like 300k so there is engineering at work!
