Default Power drop on all accessories

Hello,

New to the forum but in need of some help diagnosing my 2003 Durango SXT 2WD electrical issues. I took it to the local shop who graciously charged me to tell me the same thing I already know.

When the truck is running if I have multiple accessories on, Headlights, Stereo (stock), and the defroster or AC, and step on the breaks the electrical system acts like the truck is shutting down. Nothing wrong with idol or the mechanical truck continues to run fine. Sometimes the Check engine light will come on, washer fuid sensor, etc just as though I had just placed the key to the on posistion.

The mechanic can duplicate the issue and advised me that it is dropping half an amp when this happens. He advised me that it was just the battery and that would fix it. Well the battery didn't fix it and it is doing it while driving down the street. Most notibly when I step on the breaks for a long period of time.

Any ideas? There is no engine code being offered for the issue. I am not running any aftermarket amps or stereo components beyond the Deck. No fog lights and nothing that should be drawing that much current. I have had the Alternator checked and it's giving the correct voltages. I am just at a loss and don't know where I should check next.

Thank you
Alan

the only link btwn those systems (minus the dashlights) is the ctm, but that is on the expensive side, so start by looking for a bad ground, or frayed wire, might be as you hit the brake the ground side is shorting to another wires causing these odd symptoms

I would go ahead and replace your alternator. I try to replace the battery and the alternator at the same time especially if they are causing issues like these. To only drop a 1/2 amp isn't right with that load so I don't think he's right. OEM is 136 amp and I doubt you are close to that with I'm guessing 80k-100k miles on your rig. Concerting, that is a good life anyway. Go get a brand NEW alternator and not a rebuilt one and get it with a lifetime warranty.

I like Auto Zone Duralast Gold Batteries and New Alternators.
