I tried to install a pioneer HU in my 2001 durango. I got it all connected and everything but there is no sound. The display is on and the cd is spinning and playing but there is no sound. there is also no fuzz on the radio either. could not figure out what was wrong all the wires where connected right but still nothing. ANY IDEAS??????

What was the stock radio? Was it an Infinity? If so, it does have an amp behind the passenger kick panel that was powered up by the radio.

That is why your head unit will not work. You will have to either delete the amp that was only designed to work with the original radio or find a way to make it turn on with your head unit. You are basically pushing sound from your radio into a turned off amp and that is why you are getting no sound out of the speakers. That amp automatically turns on with the original radio in order to function correctly.

With the Infinity system I recommend going back with a factory HU and updating the speakers. Like I said, it's my recommendation that has made many happy.

+1 Fox When you start going aftermarket with the durangos sound system you either have to go big or go home..

Sorry to bring up an older thread, but I was led here by a google search for 2002 Durango head unit.
I've got an '02 SLT (maybe + ??) and yesterday the radio just stopped working.
The lights behind all the buttons light up when I turn on the headlights, but there is no display at all, and no static or any sound whatsoever coming from the speakers.
Someone mentioned that the backlights are powered separately from the actual stereo unit itself. Is this true?

I'm not interested in putting too much money into this vehicle as I actually want to sell it in the near future. I would prefer keeping the look stock, but if it is the HU, how expensive is it to replace with another Dodge factory unit?

you could try a junkyard for a replacement radio, just pull yours first so you get one with the same connectors on the back.
