Question Baffled as Heck! What tha?

I have 2001 Dodge Durango 4X4, about a month and a half ago I noticed water on the ground underneath it I have replaced the radiator cap and the amount now is not like before but its still doing it. There are times I park it and leave it for hours and come back and theres no water then there are times they are. I have been all underneath this thing and see nothing. The water apparently is coming from the overflow. Any ideas? It's never ran hot and the electric fans are working.

are you POSITIVE that it is coming from the overflow? give us a landmark on the truck (driver seat, battery, ect) as to where it hits the ground. i have seen people mistake the a/c drain for a heating system leak, he went nuts for about 2 months looking for it before i offered to take a look, saw the location of the puddle and fell on the ground laughing . . .

AC Water is passenger's side middle left from hood looking in.

Coolant is driver's side front center or right of center from hood looking in.

If coolant is good, you will see green color. Look straight down on stat housing for color. If coolant and hoses haven't been changed, do it. Upper hose is $49 and lower is $19, HUGE difference between factory hose and aftermarket. Go factory. New 50/50 Prestone premix and done. If plenty of time, $10 for a new 185 stat and a 99 cent gasket. Swap it all and check out the parts as you take them off.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. That's why I can jump in my 218,000+ 2000 D daily driver and run to Cali from Indy on the spot if need be. Perfectly trustworthy and I bet runs better than 85% of autos on the road. If it is old, refresh it... hoses, coolant, anything.

Hi guys. Thanks for the responses. The water is on the right side as you face the vehicle ( drivers side) you can see water occasionally dripping from the overflow spout. Gonna ask a dumb question but where would the thermostat be located on the 4.7? Its not the A/C unit if that was the case it would be coming from the right side (passenger side) of the vehicle.

I am being told this is a head gasket! If it is this thing is gone do not have that kind of cash laying around and it would cost more than the car is worth. I hate it to...

Get the gaskets needed and do it yourself. Get a buddy that knows what he is doing to assist you as well. It shouldn't be any longer than a half day or so to do it. I think the only specialty tool needed is a torque wrench?

I wish it is that easy on a 4.7L but it's not. THe 5.9L and 5.2L are easy but the 4.7L is a PITA! You want a shop to do it unless you know what your doing.
