Default Airbox stink

Lets start with the stats
03 durango 5.9 stock
Now the problem.
Anytime I turn on the fan for the AC or for heat I immediately get a wet dog smell comming from the vents. Prob from the previous owner. Any advice on getting rid of this smell? I was thinking of getting some lysol air spray or something similar to spray into the cabin air intake, but i'm not sure of where it is on this vehicle. On my VW it's just under the cowl on the pass side. Also I'm not getting a high amount of air flow when the fan is on high. Any advice?

They make a spray that will clean it out but I can't remember the name. I'm sure that a auto parts store will have it tho. The intake is at the same location. Under the passenger side cowl.

You can also spray upward along the carpet path under the passengers side front seat when the fan is at full speed. There is a small intake there.

Try OZIUM from AutoZone for the spray or LYSOL to actually kill the bacteria causing the smell.

The bacteria occurs and lives on the evap and in the duct work from the hot/cold/wet cycles that happen during this time of year on AC units that have seen little TLC over their lives. Can happen to anyone at one level or another.

yep finally got rid of my smell and the small pieces of mesh blowing from the vents when I had to replace the heater core under the dash. I had them replace the evap coil while they were at it with mopar parts. The mesh was coming from a piece of mesh that lays over the evap core. It was dry rotten.
