Is it possible to crush a Filipino mechanic with a D...??
As some of you know I live & work in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and own a 99 5.9l 2WD D
I took her in this evening to have some minor repair work (see separate post) at a local garage pat of a chain called Red Cap...
Been to them before & previously reliable -staffed with Filipino mechanics
Anyway they stuck her on a lift - one of these four point pickup jobs - before I knew it, instead of placing the arms under the frame they'd lifted the vehicle just under each door
I freaked and yes its damaged the vehicle with the under body pushed in by the seam on the driverside - the whole weight of the vehicle was being supported by the body.
now as far as I can see the engine and everything is supported by the frame - the body of the vehicle sits on the frame connected by a series of bushes
could these have separated with the entire frame & engine etc dropping out from under the body & crushing the idiot mechanic in question...??
in a perfect world I would have sued or got them to fix this at their expense - but all I got was my money back on this repair and a promise of some further work when needed
firstly I'll have to make an insurance claim & get the police to validate it, then I'll lose the car for week whilst the work is done...
I have to be realistic - the D is 11 years old & has dings all over it. nobody cares in this town and they fling their car doors open into your paint work - a fact that you have to deal with when buying a new car. I intend to hold onto her for another 2 years and that'll make 7 years of ownership and nearly 300,000 km on the clock of which I will have done 200,000 km. That's a good innings.
But I'm still pissed...

I say take em up on the offer!
Get the repair worthiness in writing so they can't take it away from you and hold em to it.
Other than that, those are called body mounts and body bushings to be politically correct and yes they could have broke loose and killed that mechanic!
