Default wheel bearing

I have incurred a front wheel bearing failure at 133k and shops are telling me between 4 and 8 hundred to fix... Is this realistic? So far the Ol dodge has been pretty reliable and dont mind the expense but just want to know if I have other options...

if you have a 4x4 with 4 wheel abs the wheel bearing must be replaced by replacing the hub, and the part is worth around $300 so your estimates are not too bad

The bearing is $230 or if not ABS then about $130. Labor should only be about 1-2 hundred, but depending where ya buy the parts. These are great prices I quoted you.

4X4's regardless have to have the entire hub replaced. 2wd Durango's have just bearings at about $32.

I just said that was good prices (meaning I've been around the block looking for MANY of members) and that there are 3 different kinds. There was nothin to do with me selling anything or owning a shop, just the cold hard facts. That's about the best prices he is going to find is all I'm sayin and the fact that a wheel bearing for $800 was WAY out of the ball park!

Thanks to all who replied ! A shop here in town is doing it for about 350, I dont know where the guy who wants 800 is from but it aint anywhere I want to be. I was going to see if I could get the parts and do it alone, but im sure a bearing press and other parts are necessary that I dont have. I just hope I can drive on it for a while before it fails. Thanks again!

I just bought 2 new front wheel bearing hubs for an 02 Durango without ABS for $50 each online.
However, I have 4 wheel ABS... Ordered wrong part. If anyone needs/wants them, I'll make you a deal so I don't have to pay a restocking fee to return them.
