ok here we go. its a 99 4wd 5.2 dingo and the brakes have driven me nuts. they work but the pedal seems squishy and when u mash them hard the abs and brake light comes on . i've heard it could be the booster and that they have caused some wierd problems in these durangos. but it seems as if my rear brakes arent working properly,and by that i mean it seems as if i only have front brakes and they are getting overheated with normal driving . do these vehicles require you to adjust them from time to time? and could that be my problem with the brakes?. also i just put new pads on the front and it seems the pedal is even more squishy than it was before.. im a pretty decent shadetree i have just never run into this problem before , this is alos the first dodge i have ever owned thanks in advance and i appreciate all replies and suggestions

 

you might have to adjust the rear brakes, you need to back up in order to properly adjust the drums (requires a rocking motion), you can do the majority of it through the access holes in the back if you would like, just be careful not to over tighten the shoes.

but also check the fluid level (will set off the brake light if its low) and the connections to the ABS sensors and modules

 

the fluid level is fine and the lights only come on when i have to hit the brakes harder than normal. its a very strange problem.and earlier today i hit my brakes hard and they almost went to the floor. i will figure this out one way or another it just may take a while

 

it could also be air in the brake lines, i would bleed them and see if that helps the problem

 

problem fixed, rear brake shoes were crystalized and worn. replaced rear shoes and all hardware.. works like a champ. thanks again
