Just replaced the PCM and the engine dies
HALLELUJAH!!! THE SECOND ONE WORKED!!!
The car idled for 25 minutes rock solid on 700rpm's and no engine light!!! I still need to take it for a test spin but I love what I see already!
An interesting sidebar issue, about 2 months ago I noticed the AC compressor was constantly running regardless of having the AC or Defroster on or off AND it constantly ran, no cycling as if the clutch was frozen. To determine if it was frozen or not, I unplugged the clutch and it stopped spinning so something was keeping it on. Now with the new PCM it no longer constantly runs, it now only comes on when turned on and while it's on it cycles as normal! So obviously the current path for the AC clutch goes through the PCM and it apparently was shorted keeping the compressor always running. As we know Durangoes are thirsty beasts and constantly turning the compressor wasn't helping that at all.
So there's an FYI for anyone experiencing these same symptoms.
So my story ends with a happy ending and a total cost of $247 ($47 is what the dealer charged to reflash and tell me about SKIM last week).
Would I recommend this route to someone? Hard to say, Hydrashocker mentioned he's seen 4 bad refurbs in a row until the good one, if you have the luxury of sidelining your Durango a bit while you can possibly go through "How bout this one? No? Ok,then try this one!", etc., then roll the die and save $, however if your a "2 car family" like myself and the Durango is the second car, you may want to opt for the more guaranteed route, albeit more money.

My 2 cents on this... I had to replace the PCM so me and my thin wallet ended up at a local junkyard 30 mins from my house. All numbers matched and the PCM came out of a rolled and mangled Rango with only 53,000 miles. Changed it out when I got home and 8,200 still going strong and it was only $75.00 bucks!! With a swap refund guarantee!! So the whole mileage and VIN input and flash deal that the dealer told you in my case is BS, I never had it flashed and it passed inspection fine. So I guess the source of the part and the details are as always left to speculation
Awesome you got it fixed..interesting about the A/C issue though..

when you swapped it out, since then did it throw any kind of brake or abs lights? or any other lights??? ive been told if i put a used computer in my 98 durango 5.2L that it will throw these lights but run fine...???
I have not had a single light of any kind, it has run perfectly and I have not had any issues with the Hypertech programmer either..Good luck!
Yes read the post I made on your other post. Basically if the sensor is malfunctioning it causes the charging system to go crazy and possibly kill your battery because it doesn't provide adequate voltage.
Check voltage at the battery and if its low while running replace the sensor.
