Clutch pack disintegrating
Just bought a 2000 5.9 SLT w/103K on it. Great shape, but the previous owner of 8 years was not a preventive maintenance type. Was changing all the fluids(including p/s and brakes)and found a piece of the clutch pack in the bottom of the diff. Luckily no damage to the gears. Anyone have a line on where to buy a new clutch pack besides the dealer? My first Durango but my 25th Mopar. I've been perusing this site for several weeks gleaning info and can tell that no matter what model of Mopar is being driven, the owners all have the camaraderie I've come to expect. Thanks.

You should have a Chrysler 9.25 with 392 gears in that thing. I think my clutch packs were like $130, main bearing rebuild kit $120, Wheel seals and bearings $50 at NAPA, exciter ring $18 bucks at dealer, 1 - 7oz bottle of friction Modifier $5 at Auto Zone, 2.32 L (4.9 pts.) Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic LS Gear Oil. Anyway it ended up being like $380 or so.
Check here for rebuild info: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...wers-faqs.html Look about 3/4 the way down under the header Differential

So, dealer is my only option for the pack itself? Not sure of the ring size but inside the glove box it lists the ratio at 3:55s. Would the VIN give the ring size info? I will say that the cover has 12 bolts if that's a clue. Thanks HShocker.
HydraShocker-got off my lazy butt and read the repair thread you suggested. Once I had the part # off the box in the pics, I found my local Spicer dealer online. I'll give him a call later today. Thanks again.
OK, called Spicer in KC today and the tech wanted to know if I had the Dana or Chrysler rear in my D. Told him all I knew is that it had the 9.25" gear(per the glovebox tag). Besides running the VIN, is there another way to tell which rear I have?
iv never heard of a dana rear on these trucks (i could be mistaken, but i have never heard of it) i believe the glovebox will say something like 'chrysler corporate 9.25 rear' or something like that

Like I said here ^^^^^ You have a Chysler Corporate 9.25 rear differential, and that you will have 3.92 gearing. Now the Chysler 9.25 is actually made by Dana but that really doesn't matter. Get the parts for a Chrysler 9.25!
HydraShocker and Shrpshtr325, I have the feeling you two know each other well-the interplay between you guys is truly entertaining. I don't know much about the D yet but with the help of this site, I'm assimilating fast. The glovebox ID did indeed say corporate 9.25 w/3.55 gears. I have a great relationship with a local parts store; I gave him the VIN today and he's got a clutch repair kit ordered from Precision, I believe, for $125. We'll see if it's what I need. As an aside, I'm doing an experiment to see if I can improve the fuel economy of the D. I'll post my findings when I'm done. Thanks guys and if I have enough time this winter, I'll embellish my ID on the website. I plan on being here a long time. P.S.
