Default Engine Swap Info

HI Guys,

I have a friend that has a 2000 Durango with a freshly blown up the engine. The current engine is a 4.7 V8. I have done lots of reading and I know the engine is 16T tone ring.

What year engines can I use for this SUV? Also does anyone have directions to swap out the tone ring?

Lastly I can get my hands on a 06 4.7 engine very cheap, would this work? Or would it not work since it is across generations?

Thanks,

Bryan

yes you should be able to swap the tone rings (i have read about it being done, but cant seem to find it right now), i believe for the 2000 you need to stick w/ a pre-03 engine due to a computer system change for 03, your best bet is to find one from a 00 to swap in, that would be plug and play (kinda)

+1 Sharps

They are different so I would stay 00-03 years. I think one of the biggest differences is a cam sensor and that is a different tooth as well as some other internal differences. There was one person that was going to try the swap with an 2006 in a 2002 Durango 32 tooth but never heard back from them. The tone ring is on the fly wheel so swap them and ensure.
