Default To those with an amp/sub.

Ok, quick background story. So I have had an amp and sub in the back of my durango for a couple of years...wasn't anything special just an off brand. And two months ago I got a better system with a kicker amp. Now, just a couple of days ago it was blowing the fuse on the amp and I couldn't figure out what was up, so I was troubleshooting wherever I could think of and I bought some better power and ground cables for this new system and hooked it up to the terminals on the fuse/relay box this morning and it did not blow the fuse...which got me to thinking, was my ground not very sufficient in its location in the back? Or just bad wires that shorted out because the new ones worked fine? Now I would like to make sure I have a good ground so I am asking where you all have put your ground for your amp. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
