Default flat towing and "car" hauling with the D?

i have not had any luck with the search so i thought i would just ask.

i have a 72 FJ40 land cruiser that needs to be moved and i'm debating on using the D. they weigh something like 4500lbs and it needs to go a few hundred miles. i am wondering what other peoples experiences are with towing with a 1stgen. i don't have a tow-bar on the 40 so this means either a car dolly or a full size trailer for now. if the durango can handle it no problem then i'll probably install a tow-bar eventually as the 40 is going to need to be moved around in the future. anyone tried either or?

i don't want to be driving this at 35mph so if the D can't handle this sort of load then i'll borrow a truck from someone.

also, does anyone have the tow rating on the 4.7? any other thoughts or experiences?

the tow capacity depends on what options you have, gears, tow package, tire size, 4x4 or 2wd

i believe the 4.7 w/ 3.55 gears is around 5300lbs so it should be fine towing the fj40, just make sure that you are up to date on the maintenance and your brakes are good, keep OD locked out, and take it easy(as with towing anything you can be driving like you have an empty vehicle) however highway speeds should be no problem

Also add the weight of the trailer if you are doing it.
