Default 2000 Durango SLT

I was wondering if replacing the factory Infinity speakers with Alpine Type-R SPR-17S components will be okay...they are 4 ohm speakers. They are 110 watt RMS, will I need to use a seperate amp to push these. How many watts does the factory HU and amp push? Thanks for your help!!

You should be looking for 2 ohm replacements with the factory amp.

I appreciate the input, however that puts me in a bit of a quandry. I already have the Alpines (got a killer deal on them). In addition, I am completely ignorant to the ways of car audio installation and all its dynamics. I have some additional questions if you don't mind. I'll apologize ahead of time for the ones, if not all, that are stupid.

1. So the factory amp pushes at 2 ohms? Is it adjustable to push at 4 ohms?

2. I have an older MMATS 240 watt 4-way amp that I was thinking about bridging. Can I disconnect the factory amp and power the components with this instead. I'll take any additional suggestions here...

3. How much extra wattage does the factory amp provide? How much wattage does the head unit provide per channel.

Also, just want to say thanks IndyD and all you guys who put up with repeat questions, dumb questions, drawn out questions, etc., to help guys like me. I'd buy you a beer if I could!

The factory amp is stuck at 2 ohm.

Some report 4 ohm door speakers sound fine, others say they sound like there is no power.

Infinity is nearly the only 2 ohm door speakers you will find out there.

Factory amp is <150 watt IIRC. Head unit adds zilch.

If you plan on replacing the headunit, add another amp and just leave the old one in place. Hurts nothing to have it in there and disconnected. I tried to take my out with no success.

Good luck!
