Default Looking at buying a 2000 Dodge Durango - need your help!

Hey guys. Impressed w/ the knowledge on this forum so I joined hoping some of you could help me out here.

I own a 2010 Camaro and am looking for a "beater" type of truck for the winter and bad weather. Last winter it was such a disaster with that thing in the snow i knew for sure i wanted a truck of some sort for the bad weather, plus an alternative for multiple person seating and all that.

so i came upon a dodge durango being privately sold but it definitely has some defects, which are to be expected but still...

please assess whether or not this thing is worth looking into, in your opinion of course

2000 Durango SLT V8 4x4 leather interior
Black
-Damaged front bumper, some rust around the spot where it was hit
-front automatic window needs to be fixed, does not roll down
-fan doesn't work, blown fuse or something
-174,000 miles
-asking 3 thousand (obviously i'd offer less than this)

the cosmetic defects i'm less concerned with. i'm more interested in fixing the fan (i need the heat) and the window, and i'm mostly wondering whether or not these trucks are worth it considering the high mileage.

also FYI i drove it around and engine feels great, starts up quickly, no shakiness or problems shifting gears

any help GREATLY appreciated...

the fan for the heat/ac is most likely the blower motor resistor fried, it should be located under the glove box on the passenger side floor board (thats were it is on mine)

these trucks are well known for lasting forever (especially w/ the 5.2/5.9 engines, 200k miles is common, 300k has been known to happen) (also knowing what engine you have will help us to know what you are looking at

EDIT: not sure if 2000 got the new dash layout or not, the resistor might be through the firewall in your year

in all honesty if the maintance records are good and you have it inspected and it shows good i would buy it.

BTW: check the balljoints on the truck if they are bolted on they have been replaced, the balljoints are the weakest point on these trucks

Not worth $1500.

Dash is 98-00 style. Resistor is under the wipers.

thanks for the responses. i'm on the fence as the fan not working was such a huge turnoff. i figured i'd offer something like 2200-2500. but this fan business, how much would that cost to fix/replace? (ballpark)

make sure that the rear window heater functions - it'll help keep your hands warm when you push it home...Chris

Hello? It's wrecked, it has mechanical, electrical and who-knows-what-else issues. Offer them not a penny over $1200 and run the other way if they readily accept it.

RPTFLMAO Chris_G. That was great (and correct!)

like indy said, its got some issues with it, the known issues are not too bad to fix (i dont think) however you have NO CLUE what else is going to go wrong with it in the future, i would look for one with a better history

+2 on it being in some sort of major accident. I'd walk away from it before the deal. If you really want a D, there are others out there.
@ Chris... LOL! Good one!
