Default 2000 durango

hi folks my daughter has a 2000 durango 5.9 litre and she says about a week ago her brakes started getting a little mushy and then last night she went to pick up her boyfriend and her brakes almost went out but she pumped them and got some of them back so she filled the brake reservoir and started home and then her ABS and BRAKE lights came on on the dashboard and they are staying on!! I dont know anything about these cars but I do know that you folks on the forum can tell me some stuff...so if anyone can kind of steer me in the right direction please let me know!! and abviouosly she is going to have to take it in..but my cadillac ]did something like t his olny it was ABS and EBTCM and the guys on the forum told me exactly what to do and they also gave me some good places to get the parts for pretty cheap..I guess that is what im looking for...thanks very much and I will be checking the site all day long for your responces...thanks again...Kevin Portland Or

sounds like a leak if she had to refil the resevior. A hole in the lines will give a mushy feeling, and then them going out would be lack of fluid.

All in all look for a leak!

And welcome.

Default thanks Oh by the way

thanks very much I will head out and start looking for a leak..hey about the ABS and brake lights being on ...they are still on after I fill the reservoir...what does this mean??it seems like there is a bigger problem or wouldnt the lights go out after I filled up the reservoir? And if it is a matter of resetting the computer...is there a way I can do that or do i have to take it in to be reset? thanks for your help by the way I really appreciate it.......Kevin

the lights should go off after you fill the resevoir up (there are marks on the side of the resevoir for full and add, make sure you are up to the full mark) i agree that it sounds like you have a leak int he lines, probably in the soft lines going out the a-arms, or at one of the connectors, but also check the master cylinder, and abs module, as well as the calipers themselves.

if the lights still have not gone off after this the next set of causes are the rear wheel abs/speed sensor (on top of the rear differential) and the output speed sensor on the output shaft of the transmission (drivers side, only sensor under there, and close to there it mates to the driveshaft)

If the reservoir was empty when she added the fluid then air could have gotten into the system and you would have to bleed the brakes and you might have to bleed the ABS as well.
