Default Durango Accelerates on its own

I have a 2000 Durango 4x4 with the 5.9 I'm having a few problems. the major one is while driving with the cruise set. the truck will hold the set speed for about a minute. then slowly accelerate continuously until either the cruise is turned off or the brake pedal is touched. Ive set it at 70mph before and let it accelerate itself to almost 90 before turning it off.

The other problem im having is I have a engine light that lists as a coolant fan relay. Ive installed 2 new relays with no affect. I clear the light with a scan tool only for it to instantly come back on. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Isaac

Welcome to DF
First i would ck for DTC for the speed control, 2nd You could have a blowen fuse. or the fan has a short.

ELECTRIC COOLING FAN

The DTC can also be accessed through the DRB scan tool. Refer to the appropriate Powertrain Diagnostic Procedures manual for diagnostic information and operation of the DRB scan tool

RADIATOR FAN MOTOR INOPERATIVE
Equipment Required:
DRB Scan Tool
Volt/Ohm meter
Wiring Diagrams section of this manual
Test Procedure:
Inspect 10A fuse in junction block and 40A maxi fuse in PDC Power Distribution Center (PDC)
Remove Cooling Fan Relay from the PDC and make the following checks at the relay connector:
Apply 12 volts (using a fused 14-gauge wire) to circuit C25 (relay terminal 87) If fan does not come on, check for open in circuit C25 or Z1. If circuits are o.k., replace the cooling fan motor.
With the ignition key "off" check for battery voltage at circuit C28 (relay terminal 30) If no battery voltage present check for open/shorted circuit C28 between the PDC and relay.
With the ignition key in the "run" position check for battery voltage at circuit F18 (relay terminal 86) If no battery voltage present, check for open/short in circuit F18 between the junction block and the relay.
If no problems are detected, install the DRB (refer to the appropriate Powertrain Diagnostic Procedures manual for DRB scan tool operating instructions) and start the engine. Clip a 12V test light to the battery positive terminal and probe circuit C27 (relay terminal 85) When the engine temperature reaches 110° C (230° F), or A/C is requested, the test light should light. If not, check circuit C27 for open.
If no problems are detected at this point, replace the cooling fan relay

i agree with checking the fuses in the fan, and the fan itself to make sure everything is good

The cruise control issue is usually a bad TPS sensor (Throttle Position Sensor). The only other sensor that is usually bad is the Brake sensor under the dash, but yours sounds like it is working properly. Most likely your cruise control issue is the TPS sensor. Also while you have it out clean the Throttle Body out real good by removing it and cleaning with a carb cleaner of fuel injection cleaner. Clean the IAC good while you have it out.

Remember to reset the PCM after messing with any of the sensors or messing with induction, emmissions, or ignition parts. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...ine-light.html
