he is getting money back on his old tires in the for of certificates (i assume like a gift certificate) for the difference in mileage btwn what the manufacturer claims he should get and what he actually got

No no no, certificates are basically like in store warranties. the kind you never need unless you don't have them. you know if like i pick up a nail in the sidewall or 'road hazard" stuff.

i have them on my tires now and don't think i ever used them. Kind of a waste of money but nice to have.

Idk I really like the bfg's and I'm young and have the "i don't give a crap" attitude! It's the tire i told them to order for me. so hopefully Thursday I'll have them.

I'd post picks for ya guys but I'm sure you all have seen bfg's on durango's before lol

Discount tire automatically offers a pro-rated warranty ANYWAY, it's just not a full replacement warranty at full price "exchange". Thing is, if you have a problem like a bad tire or a un-repairable tire, you cash the certificate in and they replace the tire for free. The down side that they don't tell you is you have to buy a new certificate on the new tire, which technically only like $18 bucks or so BUT they don't tell you that.

If you take the regular pro-rated warranty for free you will pay some $$$ in up front and more as you ware the tire. Regardless, it doesn't really matter.


The bottom line is this;

You need to look at your normal driving conditions. If you drive in snow like 9-10+ months out of the year then you need more of a softer grippier tire. If you drive 5-8 months maybe you need just a really grippier All Terrain tire. and 5-3 maybe just a good All Terrain tire. and 3-0 long lasting hard rubber good Touring thread.

Same goes with the Terrain; if you travel in mostly muddy conditions then you need the softest rubber and go directly to a Mud tire like BFG Muds. If you like the best of both wheelin, some mud-snow, then a good All Terrain tire is what you want. If all you do is a litter gravel and mostly road conditions then a good Touring tread pattern is what you want.

Also look at towing! You might need heavier side wall and flatter trajectory tire like a 10 ply tire and higher load range as well.

A Touring tread rubber is hard, long lasting. An All Terrain tread is softer then a Touring tire but harder than Mud Terrain for average thread waring, good grip for wheelin with mud-snow, and about all average conditions. Mud Terrain tire is very soft for ultimate grip in slippery conditions, they are great snow tires because they stay softer when cold, however the ware out very fast because they are so soft. The harder the tire the longer lasting, the softer the tire is the shorter lasting.

Lastly, lets talk about tread patterns and fuel mileage. The more aggressive tread the more air the tire grasps and it pushes you back taking more power (fuel) to push the truck. The less tread aggressive pattern like a Touring tread will cut through the air easier giving you more fuel mileage. Also the more aggressive thread design is the louder the tire will sound on the road (road noise).


The Number ONE tire in my honest opinion for all of the above conditions is the BFG All Terrain tire. The reason for my choice is because I drive about 5-6 months in snow and ice on county roads, I like to wheel in all conditions like hunting and fishing, and I tow a lot. The BFG's are the total package for me! They are an aggressive All Terrain tread pattern so they are softer than Touring tread tire (great for mud-snow), 3 ply side walls for added wheeling protection and towing sturdiness, wider tread pattern with a flat trajectory (more tread to surface). So for my style of driving habits, this is what I look for.

That was a great description hydra! Gotta say i can walk away with a more extensive knowledge on tires now!

We usually have 3-5 months of snow through the spring and summer we do get a decent amount of rain. There aren't much places around her for off roading. the closest place that i actually know of is 3-5 hours out. if I'm lucky i might be able to find a half decent trail 30-40 mins out.

I would like to go off road sometimes but with work school and homework its kinda hard. I'm settled on the tire now.

I'M GOIN STRAIGHT FOR HE BFG'S!!!

Quick question. the 32 inch 2675/75R16 is cheaper then the 31 inch 265/70R16 tire. How much would this throw off my speedometer? I would like a bigger tire and luckily enough it is cheaper! but i dont wanna throw my speedometer off any at all. not for a 1 inch gain at least. especially since its not needed.

Any thoughts?

not sure how much it would throw the speedo off by, but im pretty sure you will have tire rub with the 32" tire unless you have some sort of lift on the truck

I got the 1.5-2 inch Torsion Shackle lift. So I'm not worried about 32's rubbing. just the speedometer.

You should be reading low about 5%+ with 1 inch bigger tires on.


This means if your speedo states 50 you will actually be doing about 53 mph. At 70 you should be 75+ mph and so on, but the percent will increase the faster you go so it is very hard to tell you exactly.

Now if you chose to get a Super Chips or other tuner then you can fix your speedo to read correctly, and increase your performance. But plan on spending a few hundred for one.


Personally, I would stick with the 31's because your spare tire whould be a 31 already, if you change then you should get a bigger spare to be ready, and you can get a good used tire thrown in as part of the deal. Either way you should be fine.

Yeah I'm just gonna stick with 31's. that's plenty for me. if i do ever upgrade in size i want to go 33x12.5 and i need another 3 inch lift first. So I'll wait.

well I can't wait til Thursday to get my tires! I would post some pictures for you guys but i don't think a 31 inch bfg is to impressive lol?
