michelin ltx ms2
Hey guys, winter is coming up here in Minnesota soon and for those of you out here in MN or the Midwest you know there is a lot of snow.
My tires are down to 4/32 to 5/32 treads now and i need new ones before the snow gets here in a few weeks.
My tires were rated at 70k miles and i only got 29k out of them so discount tire is giving me a sweet deal now.
I was looking at getting an All terrain tire like the "cooper discoverer atr" or the "Hankook dynapro atm rf10" which are both about 130 a tire.
well with the mileage warranty I'm getting i can get a decent price reduction. well the more expensive the tire the bigger the savings.
well he's basically giving me a 400 dollar discount on the "Michelin ltx m/s 2"
I would regularly pay 935 bucks with certsfor them and he's giving them to me for 535 bucks instead!
THAT'S A HUGE DISCOUNT!!
But my question is, is this a great tire like it is hyped up to be? the guy there says for my "snow" needs it will out perform the BF Goodrich T/A KO's and it is thee best tire i can get for my street snow and very mild off road needs.
But is it a good durable well performing tire?
I love the price I'm getting it for but i don't wanna regret my decision when i can get another tire and a good discount.
What do you guys think is this a good tire or should i get a different tire like the Bridgestone dueler A/T revo 2?

i had the "cooper discoverer asts" on mine before what i have now, i only got 30k out of them, with that said (they are the step down from the atr's, or so i was told) they did hold great in the snow, and rain and ice (well as good as possible on ice IMO). of course if longevity is your goal i wouldnt get the coopers, but the softer (not snow tire soft of course) rubber will help in the winter
Oh hell no the Michelin ltx m/s 2 can out perform the BF Goodrich T/A KO's! BF's will take em to school!
"When asked about the LTX M/S2 capability in snow, Product Category Manager Bryan Gartman responded, "It's not being marketed as a snow tire, but it significantly outperforms the previous generation tire in snowy conditions." http://www.fourwheeler.com/techartic...est/index.html
That being said, I would go straight for the BFG's. The reason they wan't to give you such a deal on those is because of the larger kick back they are getting from Michelin to push their new design. So this transpires into they will make more money for themselves and give you less. They are not thinking about YOUR best interests.
Now the BFG KO tire isn't as great as the predecessor BFG AT as they make them with a shorter lasting rubber, but hands down they are one of the best tires still out there for YOUR application up there with all the snow and ice, not to mention a great towing, and wheeling tire. Expect 40K out of the KO's though.

So you think the want me to get the LTx's because Michelin is pushing them? Wel Bfg T/A KO's were my first choice. yeah alright i'll head back there in the morning and see what the pricing is for the BFG's. That is the tire i wanted but i think it comes out to be a good amount more?
Thanks for the feedback guys keep it coming! if you can think of any other useful information let me know!!

Yeah just thought about it man! and screw it I'm def going for the bfg's! i gotta borrow some money from my pop's anyways. also cant believe i forgot this but my birthday is in a few weeks so that kinda helps for some leverage! we'll just call it a early birthday present!!!
I'm pumped now what would have cost me over a thousand bucks is gonna get done for around 600 bucks!

I can only comment on the original Michelin LTX MS and not the MS2 because I don't have the 2s. Is there a better summer only tire? Sure. Is there a better mud tire? Sure. Is there a better snow tire? Sure. Is there a softer rubber tire? Sure. Is there a better cornering tire? Sure. Is there a better overall everything tire. Nope. Michelin LTX MS is an overall superior choice to any other for ALL SEASONS, ALL CONDITIONS. Michelin LTX MS is THE 90,000+ perfect tire for the Durango at 31.5x31x15 size.
It doesn't snow in Minn 365 days a year. In the long run, the Michelin should be the superior tire overall. When you replace the good BFs at 60 or 75k, remember the Michelins would have kept your (borrowed) cash in your pocket another 2 years. That's huge over time.

I hear ya Indy but i just cant get over those Bfg's!! Also the durango is 8 yrs old and has 77k on it now. if those Bfg's can hold out for at least 50k miles then I'd say it was worth it because 50k miles for me and my families use on the durango is like 5 years or so. i mean in 3 years we put 30k on the durango and there was a point where for a year or so it got driven maybe 60 miles a day if not more? its getting half that now.
Though you are right. I'm gonna head up there tomorrow and if the price difference is within 100 bucks I'll go BFg if its more then I'll stock with the Ltx which is good tire as well.
thanks guys! Really got me thinking now. great now how am i supposed to sleep???
