Im trying to figure out whether or i could pull the half case off of the transfer case while it is on the tranny so i can put on a new snap ring. i have great 4 wheel drive in reverse but it only grinds in drive. so i was going t replace the snap ring and get my wife going in four wheel drive again with the snow and all.
Just in case its not in the signiture i have 1999 Dodge Durango SLT plus 5.9L with a 242d transfer case

 

If your just doing the Forward Snap Ring then it looks like you could remove the rear half case.
