what do you think about this set up?
MSD owns Accel dude......LOL
Echlin is a company that builds electrical parts for NAPA (and others) but they build them to OEM specifications and/or heavy duty applications, however again they build to OEM. Do they build wires, I don't know, however if they do then they will be built to OEM.
A 6,000 volt over OEM is not much concitering OEM is about 24,000 volts so that alone is not going to ware out much more over OEM coils. In fact you can get about .002 (bringing the spark plug gap to .042) more gap out of the plug for a cleaner slightly more higher (but not hotter) spark which ignites the fuel/air mixture cleaner and more thoroughly. Also with the MSD wires you don't have the classic resistance per foot as OEM and many other (if not all) other wires. They back them and stand behind their product as they are one of the leaders in performance ignition products and have been for years.
So yea the adapter isn't the best thing out there, and yes they could have done a better looking adapter, however if you do a little bit of covering it will look just like OEM AND you will get a better performance ignition with a slightly cleaner burn.
Regardless, unless you plan on doing more performance builds to the truck including induction or building over OEM stock there really isn't much you will gain.

well thanks for all the insight guys! Like I said this was just going to be a starting point, so there will be plenty more to come but since its my daily driver I got to do it in smaller chunks. Not to mention the Army doesn't exactly pay well lol.
So, we either go with the Echlin/OEM coil and gap at .40. Or go with the MSD and adapter and gap to .42? What upgrades would have to be done in the future to make full use of the high performance MSD ignition coil?
