2002 slt towing
I', looking to buy a 4x4 2002 slt with a 5.9 for travel and towing a 5K horse trailer. The vehicle only has 104K miles. The owner has the original window sticker which shows a towing package but the sticker on the inside of the glove box says it has a 3.55 corporate LS rear end. With the 31 inch tires I'm wondering if this would be a good Durange for pulling my trailer.
with the 5.9 it will be able to handle the trailer, that being said alot of guys who tow large amounts of weight will usually switch out to 4.10s or higher gears, give it a try and see what you think. the only options for rear gears from the factory were 3.55 and 3.92
Like Indy said, just make sure your rear diff is serviced and kept nice clean fluid in it. I would recommend synthetic diff lube if you're going to be putting it thru some hard use.
