Default 2000 Durango 4 wheel drive not working

Just wondered if anyone had any ideas about what could be wrong. I have the older style that has the shifter on the floor. It was working fine and I was driving it, then all of a sudden the 4 wheel light went off and I could hear it disengage, now the shifter on the floor just moves back and forth and it won't go in 4 wheel. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

sounds like the linakge btwn the inside shifter and the t-case came loose, a bushing fell off or something along those lines, time to crawl underneath and see what you can see.

btw this should be in the first generation section, ill move it there for you so that more people see it.

Sharps nailed it. Most likely you lost the bushings or linkage.

Thanks for the info. I did crawl under it and look, but being vehicle dumb I couldn't see anything that fit this diagnosis, mainly cause I don't know exactly what I am loking for- it looks to me that what I would need to get to is buried in other parts. Thanks for getting me on the right track though.
