Default Power steering issues

When I first start out in the morning or after its been sitting for a while the power steering doesnt work initially. After turning the wheel back and forth a few times it starts to work and is fine driving down the road. Its just after i first start out and the colder it is the worse it is. Wondering what i should look for.

2000 Durango, 4.7 4X4

I had this happen to me one time and it could be your rack and pinion getting stuck. Try puting some Lucas Power Steering treatment in it and it should be fine.

Maybe time for a fluid change.....Or worn parts.

As Sharps said, I would check the fluid level.

Not sure if your takes ATF+4 or Brown Fluid.

I assume that your 2000 Durango takes ATF+4 or red power steering fluid.

If you take Brown Fluid then it is only avalibe at the dealer and is NOT a red type fluid.

To be sure, I would call a Dealer Service Center and give them your VIN#.
