I learn something new every day. I didn't know that's but good information to know. I'm not sure but it might have been post 2000 after the cosmetic change that they added the SXT.

I remember when I got mine, it was either the SLT, SLT+, or R/T. There was also the Shelby SP 360, but it was way out of my price range.

EDIT: I looked up in WikiPedia that in fact, the SXT was offered from 2002-2003 in our generation.

I see. well i was just curious thats why i asked. I'll probably jack up the rear end and try that sometime to see if it is an lsd.

what would be better? a limited slip or locking differential? both seem pretty good to me.

IMO a Limited Slip is better. Basically what a locking differential is, it is moving both wheels at the same speed, and same torque. So if the passenger side is stuck completely spinning on ice, and the drivers side is in water, the passenger side still spins with same force as drivers side.

On the Limited Slip, it transfers torque to the unstuck (drivers side in our metaphor), giving it more drive power to get unstuck. Locking is mainly for off roading, where traction fluctuates from side to side very rapidly.

In this case, for off roading I'd prefer the locking, but for the sake of what I use my truck for, an LSD is way more useful that a locker.

Imagine it this way, you have an axle, with gears in the middle that moves one side of the wheel forward. Now put a hole in that gear and a pin that "locks" the other side of the rear end to the first side.

that chip is useless, makes a good paper weight, use it as such and get a programmer, they actually work

I hear ya widow, I probably have an open diff, but i feel like i have an lsd for some reason. my family lost the little leather booklet the dealer gives you with the papers and owners manual or I'm sure there might be some useful info there.

I'm not sure if it would tell you, but there's a sticker in your glovebox that tells you some information, such as paint codes and rear-end gearing, etc. I'm not sure if it tells you here, but I'm sure it would. I know the Corporate 9 gearing is open so if yours says Corporate 9, its just regular open gearing.

Just had to check, it says corp 9. so its an open from what you say but thats alright. i don't plan on doing any major off roading but I'm gonna guess an lsd or locker is gonna be around the 1000 dollar range? with installation? i don't have the "know-how" the tools or the help to try and install my own differential. which sucks cause I'm guessing its not the hardest thing to do.

I'm with ya Widow, for average use a Limited Slip is the best choice.
