performace mods!!
Also as shrp states the fastman throttle body is a great bolt on performance mod. I have the 50 fastman and MSD performance distributor and wires with MSD ignition and it made a huge difference alone.
The only way headers are going to help is if you mod the intake and exhaust period. So until that happens it's a complete waste of time and money! I was borded 30 over, P&P heads, 3" cat back, custom intake, 52mm Fast Man,......ect.....and I STILL didn't need headers. IF I were to buy headers for my old 5.9L Durango, I would have bought shorties and not long.
B&G sells software for a PC, however it's very expensive. They call it---Live on the Fly--- DCX JTEC http://www.bgperformancepcm.com/#liveonflyjtecsbec
The fact is, by alliterating the vehicle you are altering the power curvature. Rear Wheel Horse Power (RWHP) doesn't change much just from bolt on's. Using the regular bolt on's (as most people call them) you will only gain maybe 25-40 real RWHP, however you change the power curvature which is great. You can start off with 300 hp instead of 180 hp or so depending on the motor. This is what your going to feel when you stomp on it! Everyone advertises "you use my part and you get 35 added HP!", all I can say is BULL CRAP!
Anyway, if you want to make your truck look better, pull the fuel rail and get one from a junker and/or just sand & paint it. You can send your injectors to be cleaned or simply grab them from the junker as a set.
Intake, You can do the Hughes or the better looking Edelbrock (I like the Edelbrock): https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...f1-intake.html
Intake, do the Home Brew CAI Intake

No performance mod is ever really worth the money. An extra couple of horses from a set of headers and a good free flowing exhaust can make all the difference in the world to some people.
He has a list that would cost several thousand dollars and add at the most about 50 horses. He could spend the same amount of money on a 360 swap and have more power and more power potential.

Doing your home work first before posting will help your cause. The 5.2L is the same block as the 5.9L motor, however it's all about torque.
Ever heard the saying there is no replacement for displacement. More cubes = more power all other things being equal. No one has thought to tell the guy to fix it before he mods it but you give him all the options for mods. If you are still chasing other issues mods are a bad idea but you are more intent on my mistkes than the original poster.
Check the bore sizes. The 318 and 360 are the same block about the same way a 305 and 350 chevy are. You want my honst opinion on the whole thing performance mods to anything as big and heavy as a durango aren't worth it. If you wanna go fast buy a car or at least a small or mid size truck not a 5000 pound SUV.
I agree with everyone and no one. In my opinion there is no replacement for displacement. Therefore a 5.9 360 will always have more potential than a 5.2 318. How much is errellevant (excuse my spelling please). Dodge may have only put 15 more Hp into the 360 but much more hp is capable. Whether the block is the same or not I dont know but the bore and/or stroke must be biggdr to accomodate the larger C.I. I do believe although that most bolt on stuff is a waste of money. $300 for "up to" 15 HP is rediculous. The factories have safely squeezed as much power out of their engines as they could at the time usually because of emission regulations. Therefor throwing bolt on crap to engine just wont do much. Building an engine for serious power takes planning. Start at the core. If you want 500 hp you will need a bottom end to support it. Then you will need a set of heads that can flow enough air to support 500 hp and then a cam and then an intake and headers and so on. And if I'm going that far into an engine I would definately prefer more cubic inches. Just my $.02
Also, he was asking about different ideas. Shrp simply gave him his information he has on these ways to program your vehicle for performance. I personally have a SuperChips programmer and it is great because it's got a great performance mode, but what I like about it is I can set it to economy and it will bring my mpg average up to about 15 on highway!
the only time i have every seen 15 out of the big 5.9 is cruising on the highway and actually behaving, so unless you do 90% highway driving please forgive me for having my doubts, and we did answer the ops questions, that is how we got where we are today.
Yeah, according to my window sticker from when I bought it back in 99, the best you will get is 15 on highway so are you doing 100% highway driving when you get that gas mileage?
