I was told $100 at Mr Tire, so I decided to try myself. I did change my own pads and rotors, but was not too sure about the parking brakes. The guy at the shop said there was a star adjustment there. I just do not know where it is. Do I need to remove rotors to get to this?

Take a picture. The rotor should not have to be removed to remove and replace the pads.

You do not have to remove the rotor, just the little rubber dst cover on the backing plate of the little drum. I will post a pic of mine.

Here are the pics of the backing plate of my D. The sides oppose each other, meaning that the rubber plug is on the top on the drivers side and it is on the bottom on the pass side. You can see it in the pics.

Drivers side bottom, parking brake cable going in
Drivers side top, rubber dust plug
Pass side bottom, rubber dust plug
Pass side top, parking brake cable going in

I hope this helps you because I am now about to adjust my cables since I have been putting it off for about 4 mos now.

Ya, well someones got to keep Americans working, and my liver helps em so there.....

Anyway, by looking at them it appears that they are cable operated. This means that the cables have to meet together in a adjustable "T", because both cables must mate to a single cable that attaches to the E-brake. Normally there is this adjustable "T" on the drivers side mid way about the frame. Just back it off a little and get the undercarriage washed.....LOL

Default 2003 Durango rear brakes

I just replaced the rear rotors on my 2003 Dodge Durango. The parking brake shoes which are inside the rear rotors have a star adjustment like on regular shoe brakes with a rubber plug that can be removed to insert a brake adjustment tool. Even though I adusted them I still need to tighten the cable. It has over 230,000 miles and appears to be stretched.
