Default Rear speakers not working

Hi all, I recently traded in my 2000 Sport for a 2003 R/T and am loving it so far! But I am having some speaker issues and decided to join up and see if anyone can help. I have been searching through the threads and can't find anyone who has a similar problem.

I added an aftermarket deck as well as an amp and 2x12 subs. No problems so far, everything sounding great. When I bought the truck the front speakers were blown so I replaced them with some Sony's and they were sounding fine. Week later I noticed the rear speakers were sounding like they were blown (rattling) and replaced them with some JVC's. Here's the problem: They don't work!!! no sound at all, just a very faint hiss. Tried bypassing the OEM amp under the kick plate and still no sound. Tried reversing wires to see if the polarity was wrong but that didn't make a difference. Any ideas?

Did you ever stop and think it might be a bad set of speakers. I see it all the time especially with a cheap set of JVC speakers. I'd take them back and say they're not working because it sounds like a dead coil inside the sparker is its just hissing.

Try this and get back to us.

Took the speakers out and hooked them up to the home stereo and they are working fine

Ok, think I traced the problem. Got out the multimeter and started checking the wiring and sure enough it looks like there is a break somewhere between the OEM amp and the rear speakers so it looks like I get to do some re-wiring.

Yep I was about to suggest that to if the problem ever arises again to plug it in directly to the wire coming out of the radio and if its working then its a wiring issue.

Glad you found the problem.

So a bit of an update... When I went to try and figure out exactly where the break was I couldn't find it. Every section of wire that I tested had a good circuit. So I hooked the speakers up and much to my suprise the rear channels are working!?! I didn't rewire anything. So I put everything back together and headed off to work. Get to work and discover that they aren't working again. Now I had the volume up pretty high on my way and not sure if the subs might have shaken something loose or what but I am stumped as to what could be the cause. any ideas???

sounds like a loose plug to me, could be anywhere put the radio on and start wiggling plugs until they work, then look at that connection

I know very little about audio but could it be the mounting? Possibly causing it to ground out somewhere?
