Default Bad Bearing

I've got a 2000 durango with a bad bearing in the front end. I know its not the wheel bearing because the noise doesn't change when turning. I am leaning to the outer pinion bearing because that seal is bad but short from pulling everything apart is there a way to check and see if that is the bad one or not. I only have time to look at it on the weekends and then it is my only mode of transport so pulling it apart then getting the right parts is out. Thanks in advance for any info given.

I don't know about the pinion bearing, but it is a good place to start looking.

The only way to check a pinion bearing for sure is to take out the carrier and use an inch pound torque wrench to turn it and chech the preload on the bearing and you can feel it for true.
