transmission help
im a newbie when it comes to dodge vehicles. I have a 99 durango 5.9l and the trans is starting to slip. I was wondering if i was able to use the 5.2l transmission to work on my car. Only reason i ask is cause my buddy has one in his garage from his moms car that was totaled. Any help would be great cause im in need of a car to be able to get from work to school and home. Thanks.

the transmission from the 5.2 (44re)should bolt up to the 5.9(they came with the 46RE), but it will not last long term behind the bigger torquier engine. Also keep in mind that some of the connectors on the transmission may have changed from year to year (and transmission model to transmission model)so make sure his trans uses all the same connectors and sensors as yours.

Glad I have a manual shift 727.
OP might have to get a longer drive shaft, just wondering about the flex plate and TC too, I thought 5.2s were internal balance, 360s external, will those swap over as well?

Bell hosing bolts are the same, so it'll bolt up, but dealing with a computer controlled transmission is always a PIA, especially swapping from one year to another, or even swapping to the same year beacuse of the different electronics...Like the Neutral safety switch change on the 2001 46REs...Been there done that.
SCT is limited on what it can do with a tranny, B&G has better results with tranny programming, but Dave's tunes are less than optimal.

The blocks while almost the same are not and do not share casting numbers. Everything should bolt in place between the two as far as external parts. After 93 and the start of the magnum a small block dodge is like a small block chevy in the respect the externals are the same and things like cams, lifter, pushrods will interchage but the block is different.
