I have a 2000 Durango 5.9L, having trans. problem. I start the truck put it in drive and I hear this weird buzzing or growling sound like the converter is not disengaging, and sometimes the engine dies. Also when I drive in Reverse it will buck sometimes. Anyone had this type of problem before? thanks. Also the trans. fluid is dirty looking, but does not smell burnt.

Sorry, that seamed kinda short. mine would only do every so often. i had it towed 3-4 times cuz it kept bucking and stalling in reverse.when they dropped the pan it had soft part sludge in the bottom, thats when i knew it was only a matter of time. i'd take it to ur garage and see what they can do. as i found out, by the time u hear it, its to late. when they diagnose it, i hope its something simple.

I ran the truck today up on jack stands, when you put it in gear foot on the brake the growling noise is heard, I went under the truck and the noise is diffenantly comming from the converter, it sounds like there is sand or a grumbuling sound. I suspect the converter is shot, looks like its time for a rebuild! Sucks
