The 3m is the best. You well need a good drill. shrpshtr is right one with this. I did mine two years ago and they are still good. Read the directions take your time and let us know.

Tooth past, the old fashion white paste not the jell stuff and some elbow grease.
you'd me amazed at the improvement.
A little buffing like a basic 10 inch pad helps too.

+1 on the tooth paste, buddy of mine did it to his, works well, and yes the old plain white PASTE.

I would think fine polishing compound would work about the same as toothpaste.

It does toothpaste is just generally cheaper and found more around the house to the typical person.

That's because toothpaste IS a fine polishing compound. Just an edible one. The paste (not sure about gel) does have a very fine abrasive in it.

update on the headlight cleaning. used the toothpaste (colgate travel size from wally world- 97 cents) and an old toothbrush. that got the top coat off. i used the cordless drill on low speed and a cleaning kit i got at napa for cleaning headlights. the two together worked great, head light lenses are nice & clean...and minty fresh. LMAO.
